Dual boot with XP PRO

I too have Xp Pro and Redhat linux in a dual boot config, will Vista run in dual boot or does it want to dominate the drive completley alone

The Windows Vista bootmanager will take over and possibly corrupt the ntloader for XP. I would backup any data in Linux, format that partition, launch Vista setup from within XP. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

following the advice i have read here i have XP pro on one Hard drive and Vista on a seperate hard drive. When i boot i asks me Older operating system, or microsoft windows. so for now it works to what it is needed for.i had to followthe directions and install vista from XP and all installed properly. only problem i have is installing my USB HP Printer to test it with Vista. No new Drivers for it

Have you filed a report on the driver for the printer? For Feedback: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=55160

I have the HP networked printer problem as well. I imagine it'll stay this way until we get new drivers from HP. If anyone else out there has discovered a work-around I'd love to hear it.
Thanks, Doug

Alas, HP, has no intention of releasing beta driver for their printers for Vista. They'd rather us be beta driver testers when Vista is released next year.

hi i've recently installed vista on my 2nd hd - the first has xp pro. when i boot, i get the options of 'vista' or 'earlier version of windows' - defaults to vista.
i now need to install on another machine (and get my 2nd 200gig hd in use with xp pro again) and was wondering how i can change the boot options.
i want to go back to 'straight into' xp pro and delete the vista install, but understand they use different bootloaders - so was hoping someone could please advise, before i go breaking my xo install : )
thanks in advance for any help
regards steve

This is what I did on my XP Home edition that also had the boot screen after installation of Vista. I also had Vista installed on the second drive.
Removal was simple. I rebooted my machine and chose the Windows Recovery Console option at the mutiple boot screen. I ran the fixboot command and chose what windows directory I wanted when prompted. After choosing the directory where XP was installed I rebooted. It came right back into XP by default (no boot screen). I was the able to easily remove Vista by reformating the drive where it was installed. Then of course I had the choice of keeping the partition or removing it.

Download VistaBootPro (google it) and run it. It will let you restore XP as the primary boot OS and remove the Vista loader. Very cool. "Steve5UK" wrote in message
